Passwar D - Alien Pets (Break Mix)

For the fourth and the final teaser before the official worldwide release, the cosmic frequency creature Passwar D remixed Alien Pets from his debut album “Personal Cosmology” with a melange of sounds, effects, textures and rhythms that reflected his bewildered curiosities on the world around him.

Groovy and minimal, Alien Pets (Break Mix) combines drum beats with abstract modular synths, transforming the track into a textural aura of lights. The deliberate application of white noise as the leading sound effect is a challenge Passwar D set for himself.

“ I was eager to push the possibilities when using effects that are as popular as white noise. Will there be any new territories I can reach? Can I introduce something interesting? I was not sure, although the idea thrilled me.”

The less-than two and half minutes mix is indeed a fine study on sound experimentation. It successfully married a dope head-nodding beat structure with a cosmically atmospheric ambiance all while keeping the listeners wanting more.

“If you listen to the original mix first, then this one, I think you will get a sense that I am making some sort of journey and this imaginary yet unknown journey is not over at the end of track. It feels there should be more places to go to... Perhaps, there will be more to come… perhaps, in the end, there will be this mega track that combines all the remixes … The possibilities end when the imagination stops”  Passwar D chuckled.

Passwar D - Reasons vs Impulse (Church Techno Mix)

Reason vs Impulse is Passwar D third single release from the debut album "Personal Cosmology", is an experimental take on techno and electronica. It juxtaposes the beats of the classic 808 drum machine with the mystical sound of the church pipe organ. A TB303 bass riff is introduced as a surprise in the middle section. Liquified and distorted with the peculiar synth effects, it further intensifies this techno saga and ushers the listeners into a spatial vacuum with an increasingly heightened sense of euphoria.

Scheduled to be released on August 7th, one day before Roland 808’s 40 anniversary, Reason vs Impulse is a 3 1/2 minute celebratory tribute to this classic drum machine. The recording provides a passage to the captivating explorations into the 808's robotic and spacey sounds. And this time, it is to accompany the highly synthesized and sometimes distorted melodies.

Exemplifying Taro (Roland's founder) and his philosophy in simplicity, the track’s schematic approach in structure and instrumentation is intentional. Using the drum machine in its purest form allows Passwar D to focus on applying multi-dimensional dynamics to the synth melody lines. First, the drum beats kick off the track. Then, the melodic sounding of the pipe organ takes the center stage. The melodic line morphs itself throughout the track until the end when the steadfast beats of 808 re-emerge from the background and end the piece with its distinctive sound.

Reasons vs Impulse is Passwar D's attempt to apply the foundation of simplicity in his music-making. It is about leveraging systematic reasoning to guide humanistically impulsive tendencies. Ikutaro Kakehashi, aka Taro, had the vision to create electronic musical instruments that were easy and simple to use. And, he built one of the best companies in the world for that. Passwar D, deeply inspired by Taro's disciplines, applied his principle in simplicity to his usage of 808 drum machine. Yet at the same time, he managed to successfully unleash his very strong inclination toward human impulsiveness.

"I wanted to strike a balance. I want to use this drum machine the way it is without embellishments. Then, I want something really out there. Something very impulsive. No reason. No logic. Purely visceral. So, there came the idea of pairing church organ with Roland 808".

Alien Vibes From the Earth Radio Show, EPS.0q1m by PASSWAR D

ABOUT THIS EPISODE |

DJSD (the DJ’s Daughter) is welcoming Passwardy back to the Alien Vibes From the Earth Radio Show to continue on his sonic adventure from the previous episode. Shortly after recording his live set here at the radio show, Passwardy traveled to Shanghai for some gigs, unknowingly walking right into the world’s first Covid-19 epicenter. Unable to get back to the US as planned, Passwardy utilized this quarantine time to conjure up his very first Album “Personal Cosmology” (coming soon) and some awesome mixes.

Strangely for Passwardy, being alone in an unknown city for a prolonged period without the option of getting out proved to be an enlightening experience, to the say the least. "Trapped without feeling trapped was an interesting sensation", said Passwardy. "There was so much chaos, frustration, confusions, sadness, contradictions… Yet, I had all those creative urges. Putting all of those emotions, observations, and energies into music-making, whether my own productions or the mixes I was making, somehow just made all sense".

When we asked him what were his thoughts (if any) behind this mix, Passwardy said "it was to reflect the current mood in which myself along with many others found ourselves in. It was to embrace the loneliness, the ugliness, the heartbrokenness … all those depressing, end-of-world emotions we are facing nowadays. Yet somehow had this faith that we would all come out of it with a stronger determination than ever. Perhaps it was a utopian idea. But it was really how I was feeling and continue to feel so."

Passwar D - Robo Tribe (Tribeless Humanity Mix)

The 2nd exclusive release on Bandcamp and Soundcloud from Passwar D debut album, Personal Cosmology, is Robo Tribe (Tribeless Humanity Mix).

This over 6 minutes percussive track explores the future civilization of man and machine. Although it is unclear whether Passwar D is confident in man's ability to control the machine or believes that machine will take control of the human world,  Robo Tribe paints a world of multidimensional coexistence.

When being asked about his intention for creating Robo Tribe,  Passwar D said,
“ I mean, there are no hierarchies in future civilization, no racial differences, no gender bias… and most of all, there is no tribalism or superiority of one group over another.”

He paused, then continued on.

"I am very new to the earth. I don't want to throw in my own view of the world and its society as I still have much to learn and to experience. In the last few months, I have witnessed many debates, protests, pains along with some great victories. People all over the world want something together. They are asking for, and are willing to fight for a more unified society that are built by people who have realized their own individualities. I was very inspired by this spirit and I wanted my record to reflect just that."

Robo Tribe is not a love letter to a future utopia. Rather, it is a marching group, drumming to the idealization of individualism. The passion in his voice rose as he said: “I think the listener might expect some sort of utopia from this track, when the fact it is really about not belonging to a group but belonging to oneself. If people manage to break free from gender and race presumptions, from the tribal model of thinking, and identify themselves as the independent being, they will begin to fully embrace their unique identities, and to understand and support each other”

Passwar D - Alien Pets (Original Mix)

We are happy to announce that DJSD is teasing the listeners with a few tracks from Passwar D debut album, Personal Cosmology, exclusively on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Alien Pets is the first one to become available for streaming and downloading on either platform. Have a listen and let us know how you feel about it.

After an alien pet accidentally entered the earth orbit and landed unwillingly on an industrial wasteland somewhere near Bushwick, Brooklyn, it was approached by a mysterious form, Passwar D. As neither belonged to the earth, both of them realized instinctively that love was their best language.

Musically, the track is filled with unrecognizable cymbals. The opening ambience is transformed into a textural aura resembling the burning fire, signifying the initial tension when two creatures met. The white noise eventually breaks away to unveil the otherworldly soundscape from the unknown worlds. The sonic fusion returns back to the harmonious playfulness at the end, calming the intensity of this chance encounter.
